Rotten dates readied on the market at Badamtali, Tk 12 lakh fined
Two fruit trading establishments have been fined Tk 12 lakh for selling expired and rotten dates at Badamtali wholesale fruit market near Sadarghat in the administrative centre.
AN INSTANT Action Battalion (RAB) mobile court headded by executive magistrate Sarwar Alam conducted the raid at 12:00 noon that lasted till 5:00pm on Sunday.
Sarwar Alam said two tonnes of rotten and expired dates were found at the godowns of Monir Enterprise and Rafia Enterprise at the wholesale market.
"These were packaging the dates to sell those in the market through the month of Ramadan," he said.
The RAB's executive magistrate also said each one of the two business establishments were fined Tk 6 lakh. Besides, the godown of Rafia Enterprised was sealed off.
He said the drive was conducted with the cooperation from RAB-10. "Badamtali area's environment has improved from days gone by. However, our drives will continue unless the traders change their profiteering attitude," he said.
