Miracle baby at last dies
The baby girl, who was simply declared dead after delivery by DMCH physicians on October 16, finally died on Wednesday night.
She breathed her last around 11:30 pm, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp in-charge Bachchu Miah confirmed.
Dishearten father of the kid Yasin Mollah said, "I failed to keep my daughter 'Marium' alive. How will I make understand her mother that she is no more."
On October 16, a health care provider of the DMCH declared Marium dead after Yasin's wife Shahinur Akter gave birth prematurely to her after six-and-a-half-month of pregnancy.
Hospital staff, later, put the baby in an abandoned box of gloves and asked Yasin to take her to Azimpur Graveyard for burial.
Driver by profession, Yasin took the baby to Azimpur Graveyard, but since he didn't have Tk 1,500 for burial. He was advised to visit Rayerbazar Graveyard where the burial cost is comparatively lower.
Then, Yasin took the infant to the graveyard, a grave was dug but a short while prior to the burial, the box in Yasin's hand moved and she showed signs to be alive. He opened the box and found his baby alive; she was moving and opening her mouth.
Yasin then rushed the infant right to the DMCH again.
The irony of fate is that "The on-duty physician and nurse of Ward No: 211 said there is absolutely no vacant seat to admit the baby and asked me to take her to some other hospital," Yasin alleged.
The newborn was, however, admitted after Yasin refused to take the baby elsewhere as he didn't have the money to take care of her in a private hospital.
Comes from Gopalganj, Yasin used to live along with his family in Dhaka's Uttara. That is his second child. He in addition has a nine-year-old daughter.
After the incident, a healthcare facility authority constituted a four-member probe body to investigate the matter.
