Suspected drug trader killed in 'Dhaka gunfight'
A suspected drug trader was killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Shaheed Nagar area under Uttarakhan Thana in the capital early Tuesday.

Deceased Anwar Hossain, lived at a rented house in Dakshin Khan area, hailed from Kishoreganj district. He was an accused in several drug-related cases, said ASP Md Kamruzzaman, squad commander of RAB-1.

On secret information that a gang of drug traders were staying in Shaheed Nagar area, a team of the RAB conducted a drive there around 2am.

Sensing presence of the members of the elite forces, Anwar’s cohorts opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back for self-defense.

After the gunfight, the RAB members rescued bullet-hit Anwar and took him to a local hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Police recovered 3,000 pieces of Yaba pills, a shotgun and six bullets from the scene, the official added.
