Suspected drug trader killed in  ‘gunfight’
A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Police in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar on Wednesday night.

The deceased was Siraj Miah, 40, a resident of Acharbunia area in the upazila. His name was in the list of drug traders made by the Home Ministry, said Teknaf Police Station officer in-charge Pradip Kumar Das.

Acting on a tip-off that a big Yaba shipment was coming from Myanmar, BGB and police members conducted a drive at 4 no. Sluice gate around 9.30pm.   

Seeing some people got down from a trawler, police asked them to stop but instead of, they tried to escape opening fire on police and BGB, forcing the latter to fire back.

After the gunfight, police found one bullet-hit and took him to Teknaf Upazila Health Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Later, the body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The law enforcers also recovered around 50,000 Yaba pills, a pistol, a gun, and 65 rounds of bullets.
