Joypurhat ‘gunfight’ kills ‘drug dealer’
A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Panchbibi upazila of the district.

The incident happened at Keshobpur area around 2:30 am on Wednesday (January 30).

The deceased, identified as Sohel Rana, son of Solaiman Sardar, hailed from Uttar Gopalpur village under Panchbibi upazila.

On secret information, a team of RAB raided Keshobpur area as a band of drug dealers were selling drugs there, ASP Azmal Hussain, head of Joypurhat Rab Camp, told Banglanews.

Fearing presence of law enforcers, drug dealers opened fire on them. In self defense, RAB retaliated, triggering a gun battle. At one stage, Sohel Rana and two members of RAB got wounded, ASP said.

After being taken to upazila health complex, doctors declared him dead.

1 foreign pistol, 60 bottles of Phensydil, a few rounds of bullets and a magazine were seized from the spot, ASP added.
