Supplementary budget 2019 passed
The Jatiya Sangsad on Monday (June 17) passed a supplementary budget of Tk 15,166 crore for the outgoing fiscal year 2018-19 to meet the increased expenditures under different ministries and divisions.
The parliament approved the Appropriation (Supplementary) Bill 2019 by voice votes allowing the government to spend Tk 15,166 crore from the consolidated fund to meet the increased expenditures of the ongoing fiscal ending on June 30.
In the parliament session, different ministries, divisions and institutions sought the additional amount under 58 demands for grant.
On behalf of Finance Minister AFM Mustafa Kamal, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed the Appropriation (Supplementary) Bill 2019 at the parliament.
Discussions were held on four cut-motions, including Department of Public Safety, Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Ministry of Local Government and ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment.
However, the cut-motions were rejected by voice vote.
According to the budget document, a sum of Tk 15,166 crore 18 lakh 54 thousand was allocated in favour of 34 ministries and divisions for the 2018-19 fiscal.
In the supplementary budget, the election commission received highest Tk 2,447.88 crore followed defense ministry that was given additional Tk 1604.64 crore.
