HC orders issuing red alert to arrest convict
The High Court (HC) on Sunday ordered authorities concerned to issue red alert if necessary to arrest a man, who has been convicted to life imprisonment in a graft case, reports BSS.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice K. M. Hafizul Alam passed the order to expedite the process to arrest Everest Holding and Technologies Limited chairman Abu Borhan Chowdhury for embezzling Taka 15 crore of Rupali Bank Limited.
The High Court issued necessary directions for Inspector General of Police (IGP), Director General of RAB, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and other law enforcing agencies. The court also asked them to submit a report in this regard by April 15.
According to the case documents, the accused with the collusion with others, took loan of Taka 15 crore from the bank against the lands and flats developed and sold by his company, by showing those as unsold, and embezzled the money.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on September 16 in 2012 filed case against five with Motijheel Police Station in this regard. The charge sheet was filed on September 19, 2013, against Chowdhury, his company’s managing director AHM Bahauddin and former deputy director of Bangladesh Bank Md Abdul Quddus Khan.
Dhaka special judge court-6 on April 12 in 2015 pronounced judgement in the case, sentencing Everest Holding and Technologies Limited chairman Abu Borhan Chowdhury to life imprisonment. But the convict is yet to be arrested.
