Murder: 8 hijackers get 60 years in jail
A court here on Wednesday (June 19) sentenced eight hijackers to 60 years in prison each, on charge of killing a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw driver in Dhaka 12 years ago.
The convicts were fined Tk 1 lakh each.
Judge Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 issued the order.
The convicts are-- Swapon alias Raju, Selim Sheikh, Md Jamal Hossain, Akbar, Sheikh Farid, Md Mizanur Rahman alias Mizan alias Mirza, Mofiz Sheikh and Kadir Molla alias Kadir.
They were charged with two counts of crime.
An auto-rickshaw driver in Dhaka Hasmot Ali Molla was found dead here on September 25, 2007. His son Babu Molla filed a case with Gulshan Police Station the next day.
The suspects confessed to hacking Hasmot to death and hijacking his auto-rickshaw, under section 164 at the court.
On January 18 in 2009, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector SM Shafiul Azam indicted the accused.
