DU observes Mourning Day with due solemnity
The Dhaka University (DU) authorities on Wednesday observed the National Mourning Day and 43rd martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner.
As part of the programmes, pro-vice chancellors, treasurer, senate and syndicate members, deans, provosts, proctors, chairpersons of departments, directors of institutes and office heads led by DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the morning.
The national flag, university and hall flags were hoisted at half-mast atop all main buildings including halls of the university.
A discussion was held on the life and works of the Architect of Independence Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium at 10am with DU VC in the chair.
Addressing the programmme, DU VC said that a vested quarter tried to erase the name of Bangabandhu from history through killing him and his family members.
“Their conspiracy was failed. People of ages uphold the philosophy of Bangabandhu's life. Late Bangabandhu is stronger than the living Bangabandhu”, he said.
Besides, Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) also observed the day with due solemnity. As per the programme, DUJA organised a photo exhibition titled “Bangaleer Bangabandhu” at TSC indoor.
Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the exhibition while DUJA members, teachers, students were present.
DU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League held a discussion meeting at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall in the afternoon.
Special prayer was held at all mosques after Zohr prayers and Upasanalayas on the campus. The Faculty of Fine Art arranged an art competition at 10 am at TSC cafeteria on the day.
