Political evil powers involved in militant attacks: DU VC
Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) on Monday protested at the attack on eminent science fiction writer and educationist Professor Mohammed Zafar Iqbal.

They also demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the perpetrators who are involved in the brutal attack on Shahjalal University of Science and Technology professor Zafar Iqbal.

About a hundred teachers from different departments and DU Vice Chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman took part in the human chain formed at the altar of Aparajeyo Bangla on the campus in the morning.

In his speech, VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman said, “There are deference between militant attacks in 2018 and previous years, and political evil powers are remain active in militant attacks to halt the country’s democratic process”.

“A vested quarter is trying to gain political benefits centering upcoming national election that is why we have to be alert about the evil activities” he added.

DUTA president Prof ASM Maksud Kamal said, “A group of people who does not agree to liberation war is trying to destroy spirit of the people working on science fiction, and thus preventing creativeness”.

“We have to come forward to resist their all kinds of evil doings together” he added.

Among other, Prof Md Samad, Prof Sadeka Halim, Prof Zinat Huda, Prof AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Prof Abul Mansur Ahmed, Prof Golam Rabbani and Nizamuddin Bhuiyan were present in the human chain.

Meanwhile, teachers and students of the Institute of Fine Arts and Bangladesh Charu Shilpi Sangstha jointly held another protest rally condemning the attack in front of the institute at the same time.

Besides, Sammilito Samajik Andolon held a protest rally in front of Bangladesh National Museum at Shahbagh in the morning.

Dr Zafar Iqbal came under knife attack on the campus of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Saturday afternoon. He is now undergoing treatment at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.
