BNP hits back at PM for democracy remarks
BNP on Sunday alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina “manufactured a mockery” with her comment that a strong opposition in the united states is a must for democracy as she herself ‘buried democracy’.

“Such a comment by the auto Prime Minister who was elected through nighttime voting is merely destroying democracy, the rule of law, human rights. Making such a remark is usually ridiculous,” explained BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Speaking by a press conference by BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he said, “Following burying democracy, she at this time wants the continuation of democracy and also have a strong opposition. This is the best joke with people.”

The BNP leader alleged that the Prime Minister carried out “demonic repression” on the opposition to obliterate democracy. People understand that the Prime Minister is normally lying blatantly. Actually, she wants to dig a grave for the opposition.”

At a programme on Monday at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, the Prime Minister stated, "For a democracy, a solid opposition party is crucial as we want the democratic trend to keep.”

She also said today's opposition parties in Parliament failed to attain the confidence and trust of individuals at the required level because of the lack of leadership.

Rizvi said the Prime Minister used to lie and mock people within her political culture seeing as what she does is unlike what she says. “There’s no similarity between her words and actions.”

The BNP head alleged that the current government has ‘restored’ one-party Baksal rule under a different cover since destroying democracy is Awami League’s ‘principle’.

He said there is currently no scope for the opposition expressing their opinions as the federal government has been employed in a well planned way to “eliminate” its opponents.

“It’s nothing but a mockery to talk about a solid opposition in a country where enforced disappearances, crossfire and false and fictitious cases against lakhs of opposition leaders and activists are actually area of the national life,” Rizvi observed.

He also opposed the government’s decision of giving HSC students ‘auto pass’ without the examination, saying the government has done it as part of its move to keep hold of power.

“There’s no such example of having a parliament with auto MPs of midnight voting around the world. In the same way, they (govt) confirmed auto pass and huge GPA-5 which is also unprecedented on the globe. Sheikh Hasina desires an uneducated nation without spine in which to stay power by receiving elected through voting at nighttime,” the BNP leader observed.
