17 villages flooded in Feni, over 50 lakh marooned
Incessant rainfall coupled with the onrush of hilly waters from across the border for last few days submerged 17 villages in Fulgazi and Parshuram upazilas of feni that left over 50 lakh poeple marooned.
Meanwhile, breaches have developed in 12 points on the Flood control embankment.
Seedbeds and standing crops were submerged while fishes were washed away by the flood waters.
The flood affected people in the district, however, demanded a permanent solution to embankment breach.
Erosion by the River Muhuri in five places flooded nine villages in Parshuram upazila.
Fulgazi UNO M Saiful Islam said Muhuri River erosion flooded eight village in the upazila.
WDB additional chief engineer (Cumilla zone) Jahir Uddin said a project has been undertaken to solve the flood situation permanently.
