Water transport workers call off indefinite strike
Bangladesh Water Transport Workers' Federation has called off their countrywide indefinite strike after getting assurance of meeting 11-point demand, including salary payment in government structure.

The announcement came following a meeting among owners, workers and government early Wednesday.

Water transport workers enforced an indefinite strike across the country from early hours of Tuesday to press home their 11-point demand, suspending plying all kinds of water transport.

Normalcy came back at the Sadarghat Launch Terminal since this morning after the strike was withdrawn, said Dinesh Kumar, transport inspector of BIWTA.

The water transport workers' demands include taking action against terrorism and extortion, stopping of workers’ harassment, full implementation of pay scale 2016, providing Tk 10lakh compensation for any injury of a worker and cracking down robbery on the river routes.
