48hrs countrywide transport strike from Oct 28
Transport workers called for a 48-hour countrywide strike demanding amendment to some provisions of the Road Transport Act 2018.
The strike will begin at 6 am on October 28, according to a press release issued from Bangladesh Road Transport Workers’ Federation on Monday (October 22).
Road Transport Act 2018 was passed in National Parliament on September 19. The act has provisions which are both for and against the interest of workers. Apart from that, the law has been enacted without considering road accidents as accidents, rather as criminal offense, the release reads.
Under the law, there is a risk of death penalty after being convicted in a road accident case. It is not possible for the workers to perform duties being terrified. That’s why there is no option for us other than movement, release also said.
