Ban on motor vehicles for DNCC polls
The Election Commission has imposed a restriction on plying of all types of motor vehicles in Dhaka North City Corporation on Election Day, with a 54-hour ban on motorcycles.
EC deputy secretary Md Atiar Rahman has already sent this instruction to secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division of Road Transport and Bridges Ministry to implement the ban.
DNCC election returning officer Md Abul Kashem said all kind of motor-driven vehicles have been banned on election day only, the ban on motorcycles will be for three days starting from 12:00am Wednesday (Feb 27).
The by-elections to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in the mayoral post will be held on Feb 28.
Besides, general elections in 18 newly formed wards in DNCC and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) each will be held on the same day.
The returning officer of DNCC election said inter-district buses have been asked to use main roads during in and out of the city.
