73 more public toilets in DNCC area: Minister
The government will construct 73 more public toilets in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area as the existing toilets are insufficient compared to the number of population.  

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Monday made the disclosure replying to question in Parliament. 

“A total of 37 public toilets are now at the DNCC area...every public toilet has separate system for the women ..the number of toilets is not adequate as per the number of population,” the Minister said. 

The toilets would be constructed under modernization of the open space, development and greening project of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

On the other hand, the government has taken a initiative for construction of 47 new toilets equipped with modern facility and quality at the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC)area, said the Minister.

Khandaker Mosharraf said initiative of renovation and development of more 17 existing toilets has also been taken under management and maintenance programme.

In the DSCC area, there are 53 public toilets and each toilets have separate system for the women, he added.

In addition to this, the DSCC area has also 59 petrol and CNG stations while 57 stations have toilet facility, said the LGRD minister, but the number of toilets are not enough in comparison with the people.

Meanwhile, a memorandum of understanding has been signed with non-government organization Water Aid for building 15 modern toilet at DSCC area, he said.
