Voting in 61 municipalities on January 16
Elections for 61 municipalities will be held found in the second phase on January 16, 2021.

Mohammad Alamgir, senior secretary of the Election Commission (EC) secretariat, declared the schedule in Wednesday saying, “Voting would be held in 29 municipalities through digital voting machine (EVM) and on 32 municipalities through ballot. The voting will operate from 8am to 4pm.”

The last time for submission of nomination papers at the next phase is December 20. Nomination papers will come to be determined on 22nd December, said the state.

The last day time for withdrawal of candidature is December 29.

The 32 municipalities to have polls through ballots are: Sandwip in Chittagong, Mohanganj in Netrokona, Kushtia Sadar, Mirpur, Bheramara, Kulaura in Moulvibazar, Kamalganj, Nageshwari in Kurigram, Gaibandha Sadar, Sundarganj, Dinajpur Sadar, Birampur, Bhangura in Pabnar, Sathia, Sujanagar, Ishurdi, Sunamganj Sadar, Chhatak, Natore’s Gopalpur, Gurudaspur, Bogra’s Sherpur, Rajshahi’s Bhabaniganj, Sirajganj’s Sadar, Ullapara, Belkuchi, Raipur, Habiganj’s Madabpur, Nabiganj, Faridpur’s Boalmari, Kishoreganj Sadar and Mymensingh’s Muktagar.

Alternatively, polls will be held through EVM in- Kazipur in Sirajganj, Tarab in Narayanganj, Shariatpur Sadar, Magura Sadar, Savar, Birganj in Dinajpur, Naogaon’s Nazipur, Pabna’s Faridpur, Bogra’s Sariakandi, Sunamganj’s Jagannathpur, Pirojpur Sadar, Kendua in Netrakona, Gangni in Meherpur ,Shailakupa in Jhenidah, Khagrachari Sadar, Syedpur in Nilphamari, Arani in Rajshahi, Kakanahat, Kumarkhali in Kushtia, Mymensingh’s Fulbaria, Noldanga in Nator, Dhanbari in Tangail, Chandina in Comilla, Feni in Daganabhuiyan, Kuliarchar in Kishoreganj, Monohardi in Narsingdi, Santahar in Bogra, Basurhat in Noakhali and Monglaport in Bagerhat.

Giving an answer to a question by newsmen while announcing the program, the secretary explained, “The Election Commission features discussed the Chittagong Metropolis Corporation’s voting primariliy, you don't have to announce a schedule here.”

The state said that only the voting day will be announced.

“The day of the vote will be announced if the commission decides. In cases like this, the vote might take place at the end of December. If extremely hard, it'll be placed in January,” he explained.

The first round of municipal elections will be held on December 28 , Mizanur Rahman, deputy secretary of the EC secretariat and coordinator of the steering committee for the municipal general election, 2020, said today.

“In the first phase, 1,333 candidates contain filed nomination papers for 25 municipal elections. Included in this, 112 possess filed nomination papers for the post of mayor, 283 for the reserved women’s seat and 938 for the post of standard or councilor,” he added.

Based on the EC program, the last date designed for submission of nomination papers in these municipalities was December 1. And the date of collection of nomination papers by the Returning Officer is normally 3 December.

The last time for withdrawal of candidature is 10 December.

At the moment there are 329 municipalities in the united states.

The 25 municipalities to choose polls in the first phase are: Panchagarh Sadar, Thakurgaon’s Pirganj, Dinajpur’s Fulbari, Rangpur’s Badarganj, Kurigram, Rajshahi’s Puthia and Katakhali, Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur, Pabna’s Chatmohar, Kushtia’s Khoksa, Chuadanga, Khulan’s Chalna, Betagi in Borguna, Kuakata of Patuakhali, Uzirpur and Bakerganj of Barisal, Gafargaon of Mymensingh, Madan of Netrokona, Manikganj, Dhamrai of Dhaka, Sreepur of Gazipur, Dirai of Sunamganj, Baralekha of Moulvibazar, Shayestaganj in Habiganj and Sitakunda in Chittagong.

On December 30, 2015, polling was held concurrently in 234 municipalities.
The term greater than 250 mayors and councilors of the municipality is arriving at an end by mid-February.

Based on the law, vote is required 90 days prior to the expiration of the terms of elected mayors and councilors in the municipality.
