DRU election underway, 41 applicants contesting for 21 posts
The election of the executive committee of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) for the year 2021 is underway on Monday at its Segunbagicha office in the administrative centre.
The vote casting started around 9:00am which is continued till 5:00pm without the break.
Forty-one individuals are contesting for 21 posts on the DRU election this season. They are one for president, one for vice-president, 12 for secretaries and seven executive committee customers. Some 1,693 voters, out of 1 1,800 customers of the professional body will cast their votes.
Of the candidates, Rita Nahar (Boishakhi TV), Saidur Rahman Rubel (Rtv) and Khaled Saifullah (Nayadiganta) have already been elected unopposed to the articles of Woman Affairs Secretary, Publicity and Publication Secretary and Welfare Secretary respectively.
Three prospects are contesting for the post president. They happen to be Mursalin Nomani (BSS), Nazrul Islam Mithu (German Media Firm) and Shahnewaz Dulal (Shomoyer Alo).
Three candidates are also contesting for the post of vice-president. They are Abul Bashar Nuru, Nazrul Kabir (Bangla Tribune) and Osman Gani Babul.
Three individuals are contesting for the post of DRU secretary. They happen to be Morsalin Babla (Channel i), Mashiur Rahman Khan (Samakal) and Tofazzal Hossain (Khola Kagoj).
The largest five applicants are contesting for the post of joint secretary. They happen to be Arafat Daria, Faruque Khan (Bangladesher Kantha), Hafiz Al Asad (Sayeed Khan) of Channel Seven, Mehedi Azad Masum (Alokito Shomoy), and Md Golam Moinul Ahsan (Banglavision).
Three prospects are contesting for the post of organising secretary. They happen to be Abdullah Al Kafi (Amader Shomoy), Mainul Hasan Sohel (Inqilab) and Abdul Hye Tuhin (Sangbad Protidin).
Alternatively, Shah Alam Noor (Asian Age) and Shyamol Kanti Nag are contesting for the content of Finance Secretary, while Jannatul Ferdous Panna and Md Zafar Iqbal are contesting for the content of Office Secretary.
Halim Mohammad (Dainik Jagoron) and Kamal Mosharef (Bangladesher Khabar) are actually contesting for the content of Information Technology and Schooling. Maksuda Lisa and Md Mojibur Rahman are contesting for the content of Sports Secretary. Md Shahabuddin Mahtab and Mizan Chowdhury happen to be contesting for the content of Cultural Affairs Secretary. Muhammad Akhtaruzzaman and Mohammad Naimuddin (Risingbd) happen to be contesting for the content of Entertainment Secretary.
Nine candidates are contesting for seven executive committee member posts. They happen to be Azizur Rahman (Dhaka Instances), Rafiq Rafi (New Country), Jahangir Kiron (Manab Kantha), Md Salim Ullah Mesbah, MM Jasim (Business Common), Nargis Jui and Md Mahbubur Rahman of BTV, Romana Zaman (Bhorer Kagoj) and Sayeed Abdul Malik (Inqilab).
Meanwhile, the 25th gross annual general assembly (AGM) of the DRU was held on Sunday in its Segunbagicha office in the capital. The organization's financial survey was located at that time.
