Uncle-niece drown in Gazipur
Two people including a drowned in a water body at Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur on Sunday evening.
The deceased were identified as Waliullah, 29, son of late Riaz Uddin of Uttargaon, and his niece Maria Akter, 8, daughter of Nazmul Haque of Betua village at the upazila.
Quoting locals, Kaliganj Police Station SI Md Moazzem Hossain said these were crossing a water body by boat made out of palm trees (locally referred to as Konda). At one point, the boat sank in the center of the water body.
Locals rushed them to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex where in fact the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
The hospital RMO Dr Sanjay Datta said these were brought dead at a healthcare facility around 7pm.
The bodies were handed over to the family without autopsy and an unnatural death case was filed in this connection.
