Two Biman officers suspended
An officer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines who was appointed on contract basis has been sacked and another officer of the national carrier has been suspended temporarily.
The decision was made at a meeting of the airline's headquarters in Kurmitola on Tuesday (September 3) night.
A competent source said the board of directors of Biman has made the decision due to negligence regarding the return of two aircrafts that were leased from Egypt Air.
According to sources, the appointment of Group Captain (retd) Khandaker Sajjadur Rahim was canceled at the meeting of the board of directors of the national flag carrier of Bangladesh. On the other hand, Chief Engineer (Engineering Services) Ghazi Mahmud Iqbal has been suspended temporarily.
In the meeting, chaired by Air Marshal (retd) Muhammad Enamul Bari, various issues, including recruitment of chairman of the board of directors of Biman, and the managing director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company was discussed.
However, no final decision on the appointment of MD has been made, sources said.
Member of the Board of Directors and Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mohibul Haque confirmed the information.
According to the sources, on April 30, 2018, Group Captain (retd) Khandaker Sajjadur Rahim was appointed on contract basis to the post of Director (Engineering) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. On the other hand, Ghazi Mahmud Iqbal, a permanent employee of Biman, is serving as Chief Engineer (Engineering Service).
