Transport workers in Chattogram go on 24-hour strike from this evening

Transport workers in Chattogram goes to a 24-hour strike on Dhaka-Chattogram and Chattogram-Cox's Bazar routes protesting at the killing of a bus driver allegedly by Detective Branch police members at Karnaphuli upazila of the district on Monday night.

A regional committee of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation said that transport workers here will stage the strike from 6pm Wednesday to 6pm Thursday on 68 district routes connecting Chattogram and 19 local routes.

They demanded immediate arrest of the killers and bringing them under trial, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Jalal Uddin, 50, a driver of the Shyamoli Paribahan, hailing from Dinajpur.

A group of men who identified themselves as Detective Branch police members stopped the bus, had the driver get down from his vehicle and beat him to death at 8 pm on Monday after the bus reached Vellapara bridge of the highway, said the bus supervisor Azim Uddin.
