Speech-impaired woman, RMG worker ‘raped’ in Savar, Chattogram
A speech-impaired woman and a garment worker have allegedly been raped in Dhaka and Chattogram districts.

In Dhaka, police arrested a man as he allegedly violated the speech-impaired girl of his neighborhood at Krishnapur village in Savar upazila early Wednesday, according to news agency UNB

The arrestee is Shafiqul Islam, 47, a furniture trader of the village.

Shafique swooped on the victim, 20, when she came out of their house in the early hours to respond to the call of nature and violated her.

Sensing the incident, other house inmates and locals rushed in and caught the alleged rapist. Later, he was handed over to police.

The victim was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said sub-inspector Sheikh Tariqul Islam of Savar Model Police Station.

In Chattogram, police arrested two young men as they reportedly raped a garment worker, 23, at Charpatharghata in Karnaphuli upazila while returning home from her workplace on Tuesday night, reports UNB.

The victim managed to make a call to emergency helpline number 999 and police rushed to the spot but the rapists fled by the time.

Police finally arrested the duo in the early hours of Wednesday after conducting raid, said officer-in-charge of Karnaphuli Police Station.
