RMG workers block Dhaka-M'singh highway
Workers of a ready-made garment factory blocked Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur city and staged demonstration demanding their arrear salary.
The workers of Knit and Knitex Garments took to the street at 10:00am and staged demonstration blocking the highway in Dekerchala area for around two hours, creating severe gridlock of vehicles on both sides of the highway.
Protesting workers said the factory owner paid them half of the salary for the month of August ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and promised to pay the rest half in the beginning of September. But, he did not yet pay the rest amount that led them to wage the demo.
Earlier on Saturday night, the agitated workers vandalised a number of factories, including Knit and Knitex Garments.
Ismail Hossain, officer in-charge of Gachha Police Station under the city, said being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
