RMG workers reject owners’ wage proposal
RMG workers turned down the owners' proposed minimum wage of Tk 6360, and demanded fixing it at Tk 16000.
Garment Workers' Rights Movement, an organisation of RMG workers, made the demand at a demonstration programme in front of the minimum wage board office near the Jatiya Press Club on Monday, reports UNB.
Speaking at the programme, the workers leaders said the recommendations of the RMG workers' wage board involving the owners and workers' representatives over fixing minimum wage were made protecting the owners' interests.
They said the country's 40 lakh garment workers will not accept the decision.
The workers leaders also alleged that that RMG workers' wage board has not been fixed considering the present market situation, ILO convention, inflation, socio-economic condition and standard of the workers' life.
They also said the owners are trying to harass the leaders of the garment workers by implicating them in false cases only to implement their blueprint over the minimum wage.
The RMG leaders warned that no conspiracy can stop their movement demanding the minimum wage of Tk 16,000.
They said the RMG workers will bring out processions and stage demonstrations at every industrial area on Tuesday protesting the proposed minimum wage for them.
Besides, Garment Workers Trade Union Kendra will hold a press conference in the city the same day turning down the proposed minimum wage.
President of Garment Workers Trade Union KendraMontu Gosh, General Secretary Joly Talikder and Organising Secretary Khairul Mamun Mintu were present in the programme.
