Sirajganj transport strike called off
The transport strike enforced by Sirajganj District Transport Owners and Workers Association was called off on Sunday morning.
Protesting owners and workers this morning announced the recall after observing the strike for three consecutive days.
But decision has not been taken yet on plying of Sirajganj's bus towards crossing Bangabandhu Bridge.
The strike was enforced on Thursday, following dispute with Dhaka's bus owners and obstruction to plying Sirajganj's buses on the way to capital.
Zinnah Almajhi, president of Sirajganj Bus, Minibus and Coach Owners' Association, confirmed the matter.
He said local MP Professor Dr Habib-e-Millat Munna sat at a meeting with administration and transport leaders at deputy commissioner's office around 9:30am on Sunday.
He, and deputy commissioner Dr Faruque Ahmed assured of resolving the crisis soon.
"Actually we have called off the indefinite transport strike in their (administration) assurance and considering sufferings of flood affected people."
He also said, "We will resume movement if administration fails to resolve the crisis as per commitment despite recall of strike."
Due to the three-day strike, road links of the district with Dhaka and rest parts of the country was suspended.
The association also kept vehicle movement shut in local routes too, leaving businesses and passengers to immense sufferings.
They called the strike protesting closure of the district's all counters at Dhaka's bus stands and pushing back buses of the district from Chandra intersection and non-organizational activities by Mohakhali Bus Owners' Association, including misbehaviour with workers.
Dispute arose between two owners' association after Mohakhali Bus Owners launched several buses of 'Seba Line' in Sirajganj-Dhaka route without discussion of the district bus-minibus and coach owners; association.
Following the dispute, bus services remained shut in the route since July 13.
