Quota cancelled!
The cabinet has approved the proposal to revoke the existing quota system for appointment to first and second class government jobs, said cabinet secretary, Mohammad Shafiul Alam.

Earlier, a government formed secretarial committee submitted a report suggesting the repeal of the quota system.

In the existing rule of quota, 30 percent is reserved for freedom fighters, 10 for district, 10 for women, 5 for ethnic minorities and 1 for people with disabilities which makes a total of 56 percent.

The secretarial committee suggested the revocation of 56 per cent quota for first and second class government jobs.

On the lifting of quota from the freedom fighter category, the government may ask advice from the court.

Mohammad Shafiul Alam said, “The committee carried out extensive research and found that there isn’t any ethnic minority group which is backward or underprivileged and, therefore, no quota was reserved for them.”

The report will now go through various departmental approvals starting with an approval from the ministry of public administration. It will then go to the prime minister’s office for approval and raised in parliament. After the final approval at parliament, gazette declaration will be published.

”It may be presented at the parliamentary meeting on the first week of November for final approval,” said the cabinet secretary.
