Quota committee to submit report by 15 days
DHAKA: The quota committee will submit a report with recommendations for review, reform and cancellation of the existing quota system in public service recruitment within 15 working days.

The joint secretary of Public Administration Ministry Abul Kashem Md Mohiuddin said it to reporters after the first meeting of the quota committee at secretariat on Sunday (July 8).

He said the first meeting of the quota committee was held with cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam in the chair to determine the work plan.

“At the initial stage, the committee will gather all the information we have on quota system and then sit on the second meeting. We are trying to complete the whole thing within 15 days,” he said.

When asked whether the committee will sit with quota reformists, cabinet secretary Shafiul Alam said the protesters placed different demands on different occasions. They don’t have clear understanding of the matter. Since the Prime Minister wants to make a well-planned decision, the committee will recommend a informative and pragmatic decision in the report.

Earlier on July 2, the Public Administration Ministry issued a notification on forming the seven-member committee convened by cabinet secretary Shafiul Alam.

Other members of the committee are: Senior Secretary of Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of Law Ministry Mohammad Shahidul Haque, Finance Secretary Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, Secretary of Liberation War Affairs Aparup Chowdhury, Public Administration Ministry Secretary Foyez Ahmad, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission Secretariat Akteri Mamtaj and the Acting Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office Sajjadul Hasan.
