Quota reform not an easy matter: Cabinet secy
DHAKA: Mentioning that the reformation of existing quota system in public services is not an easy matter, cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said the matter is still under active consideration in highest level of the government.

The secretary made the remarks to reporters at secretariat after the regular cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held in Prime Minister’s Office on Monday (July 2).

When asked about the progress on quota reform, Shafiul said this is not an easy matter as you might think. There are so many things to be considered before making a decision and the process will take time.

Earlier Prime Minister said a committee led by cabinet division secretary on quota reform has been formed. When asked about it, Shafiul said, “We haven’t officially started the committee work but hoping to start soon.”

Job seekers and students of public and private universities of the country have been staging demonstration demanding the review of the quota system in government job recruitment for long time. Quota reform protesters and leaders were allegedly attacked by members of Bangladesh Chhatra League on Sunday and Monday.
