President reaches London
President M Abdul Hamid, who is on a nine-day visit to London for health checkup and treatment of eyes, reached British capital this afternoon (local time). 

Ashequn Nabi Chowdhury, press minister of Bangladesh High Commission in London, confirmed the news tonight.

He said, “A VVIP flight (BG-001) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited carrying the President arrived at Heathrow International Airport, London around 3:36 pm (London time) today.”

The President was received by Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Saida Muna Tasneem at the airport. Abdul Hamid is scheduled to have his checkup at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London.

President Hamid left Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport at 9:45 am for London by an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, acting dean of diplomatic corps and Turkish envoy in Dhaka Devrim Ozturk, cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam, chiefs of three services, principal secretary, foreign secretary, inspector general of police (IGP), home secretary, acting British high commissioner Kanbar Hossein Bor and civil and military high officials saw him off at the VVIP Lounge of the airport.

The President is expected to return home on September 8, President’s deputy press secretary Abul Kalam Azad told BSS.

The 75-year-old President Hamid earlier underwent health check-up there on May this year.

Abdul Hamid has been suffering from Glaucoma since long. He used to have his health check-up in London while he was the Speaker in the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament).
