EC to seek President’s permission for army deployment
The Election Commission (EC) will request the President for deploying army during the 11th parliamentary election before announcing the schedule of the polls.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda along with other commissioners will meet with President Abdul Hamid on November 1 before announcing the election schedule in the first week of November.
According to tradition, EC calls on the President before every parliamentary election.
During the meeting, EC will notify the President on the overall election preparations. At the same time, the challenges of holding a fair election and how to tackle those will also be presented before the President.
Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam told Banglanews that the commission has not ruled out the possibility of troops’ deployment during the election if the situation demands. The President is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and will seek his permission.
