Photographer Shahidul sent to jail after remand
A Dhaka court sent Drik Gallery owner and eminent photographer Dr Shahidul Alam to jail following seven days of remand in a case filed under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Fahad Bin Amin Chowdhury of the Dhaka court passed the order on Sunday evening (August 12) after DB inspector Arman Ali produced Shahidul before the court praying for the custody of Shahidul until investigation is over.
Earlier, Dr Shahidul Alam was picked up from his Dhanmondi residence Sunday night (August 5).
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Obaidur Rahman confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Monday morning (August 6).
Police filed the case against Shahidul Alam for spreading propaganda and false information on Facebook and electronic media against the government.
Rehnuma, wife of Shahidul Alam, said her husband gave an interview to international media about on-going students’ movement. Besides, he came live on Facebook about this issue a number times.
