Newly elected councillor among 8 arrested
Eight persons, including newly elected ward councillor Sakhawat Hossain Shawkat from city's Rampura area on Monday night on charge of beating up a policeman.
Police held Shawkat, elected councillor of ward 23 under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) following a case filed by victim SI Abdul Majid of Special Branch (SB) of Police with Khilgaon Police Station in this connection.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Khilgaon Zone) Assistant Commissioner Zulfiqar Ali said councillor Sakhawat and seven others were sent to the court on Tuesday after initial interrogation.
Sakhawat is the general secretary of ward- 23 unit Awami League.
