Govt must have responsibility for developing custodial deaths: BNP
BNP Secretary Basic Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said the federal government must shoulder the duty for the developing incidents of loss of life in jail.
“The incidents of death in jail are occurring one after another beneath the current regime, especially the dissidents are dying in custody. The federal government must have responsibility for these incidents,” he said.
In a statement, the BNP innovator explained killing anyone in jail is an utter violation of human rights.
He said ex - BNP head and MP Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu, article writer Mostaq Ahmed and several other dissidents died mysteriously in jail.
The statement was issued voicing concerns over the death of Hefazat innovator Maulana Iqbal Hossain who fell ill in jail and after died at a hospital on Thursday night.
Fakhrul said there is no credible and acceptable investigation or perhaps satisfactory statement from the government regarding the custodial deaths.
He demanded a good judicial investigation into the death of Maulana Iqbal.
The BNP innovator prayed for the salvation of Iqbal’s departed soul and conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved members of the family.
Maulana Iqbal, also the president of Khelafat Majlish’ Sonargaon device, was arrested by a group of Rab-11 on April 11 as he was the main accused in a circumstance filed above vandalising Royal Resort and creating violence on a highway.
He was taken to Mitford Hospital due to he fell sick found in Narayanganj district jail where he died last Thursday night.
