Proceed to revoke Zia's subject: BNP announces fresh protest prog
A working day after a clash with police in the capital over a rally, BNP Sunday announced a countrywide demonstration for Wednesday protesting what it said an ‘evil effort’ to repeal the party founder Ziaur Rahman’s Bir Uttam gallantry title.

Party position committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain developed the announcement at a good press conference in BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan business office.

As part of the programme, he said their party leaders and activists will stage demonstrations and protest rallies in every district towns and cities, except the Barishal division, on Wednesday.

As per their scheduled program, the BNP leader said their party might hold a rally found in Barishal town on Thursday, demanding the ‘restoration’ of democracy and people’s voting rights.

He urged party leaders and activists to make their programmes successful.

Mosharraf said they'll announce different programmes found in phases in the times to come as they would like to reach their target by intensifying the ongoing movement for ousting the federal government and restoring democracy.

Earlier on Saturday, BNP leaders and activists locked right into a clash with police towards the end of a good protest rally of the get together before Jatiya Press Club found in the administrative centre, leaving over 100 people injured.

The party arranged the rally in protest against the Jatiya Muktijoddha Council’s (Jamuka’s) proceed to revoke party founder Ziaur Rahman’s gallantry title of Bir Uttam.

Mosharraf said Jamuka has taken the maneuver for repealing Zia’s name as part of the government’s intend to mislead people.

Meanwhile, the Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka) in a meeting in Tuesday discussed the methods to revoke the gallantry subject of Ziaur Rahman for ‘violating’ the constitution, ‘abetting’ the self-proclaimed killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman found in escaping the country.

The meeting also agreed to repeal then state-given awards to Bangabandhu’s four convicted killers Noor Chowdhury, Shariful Haque Dalim, Mosleh Uddin and Rashed Chowdhury.

Bir Uttam, the second-highest award for individual gallantry found in Bangladesh, was conferred on Ziaur Rahman for his contributions to the Liberation Battle as a sector commander.
