Four killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfights’
Three suspected robbers and a drug trader were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ at Nurullaghona hill and Dorgapara of Marine Drive road in Teknaf of the district early Saturday.

Among the deceased, according to police, Junayed, Ayub and Mehedi Hasan were robbers while Imran Molla was a Yabba trader.

Pradeep Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf thana, said on information, a team of police conducted a drive in Nurullaguna hill area around 4:00am when more than 10 robbers were attempting to commit robbery.

Sensing presence of the police members, the robbers opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back in self defense that triggered a gunfight.

After the gunfight, police recovered injured Junayed, Mehedi and Ayub from the spot and took them to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared them dead, he said.

Additional superintendent of police Rezwan, inspector Manas Barua, ASI Sajib and constable Mehedi were injured during the gunfight, the OC claimed.

Eight locally-made LGs, five sharp weapons and 25 rounds of bullet were recovered from the spot.

In another incident, police recovered injured Imran Molla severely injured in an infighting between two groups of drug peddlers at Dorgapara of Marine Drive road at around 1:30am.

OC Pradeep Kumar Das confirmed the matter and said Imran was declared dead after he had been taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.

Police arrested two people in this connection. They are Saifuddin Shahin, 38, of Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali and Md Siddique, 27, of Teknaf.

The dead bodies were sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.
