EC rejects TIB report on 11th JS polls
Election Commission rejected Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB)’s report that had stated irregularities during the 11th national election held on December 30, 2018.

“TIB claims the report a research is not actually a research. It’s just a report, because the methods of research are not applied here at all,” said Election commissioner Rafiqul Islam.

Rafiqul Islam also said, “The report is fabricated and baseless. Besides, EC said it’s their primary report, which means this report is a pre-made one.”

Information on vote rigging must be taken from Assistant Presiding Officers or from a written document. Nothing as such was done, the commissioner further said.

Without citing source and procedure, how they claim ballots were stuffed on the night before the elections, the commissioner added.

Earlier in the day, TIB presented its findings of a research at a press briefing at MIDAS Center in Dhaka on Tuesday (Jan 15).

“The EC couldn’t play impartial role in the voting, couldn’t ensure equal participation of all, security for the candidates of all the parties,” said TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman.

Allegations of irregularities have been surfaced for 47 constituencies. Fake votes were cast in 41 constituencies and ballots were stuffed the night before voting day in 33 constituencies, he stated.
