ACC seeks Shahed’s details from 7 more institutions
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent letters to seven more public and private institutions asking them to supply information and documents on Regent Hospital owner Md Shahed.

ACC PR Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the problem to Banglanews on Tuesday afternoon (July 14).

The institutions are- Dhaka South City Corporation, Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms, Uttara west police station, United Commercial Bank’s Uttara branch, The Dhaka Mercantile Co-operative Bank Ltd’s Airport branch, National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine and office of NBR Tax Zone 9.

Early in the day, ACC sent letters to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and Bangladesh Bank.

According to ACC sources, the letters were delivered to the institutions enquiring details about Shahed’s activities, and banking transaction records.

On July 13, the ACC decided to investigate the corruption allegations against Md Shahed and his illegally acquired wealth. 

A three-member body, headed by ACC deputy director Md Abu Bakar Siddique, has been formed to lead the investigation. The other two members are- Md Neyamul Hasan Gazi and Sheikh Mohammad Golam Mawla.

On July 7, a mobile court of RAB conducted a drive in Regent Hospital in Uttara and sealed off two branches and its own head office. 

Later, RAB also filed a case with Uttara west police station against Regent Hospital for issuing fake Covid 19 certificates and deceiving patients. 

In the case, RAB named 17 accused including Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed as the prime accused.

Eight accused, including Shahed’s personal aideTariqul Islam, has been arrested up to now. However, Chairman Shahed, managing director and seven others are on the run.
