6 of a family group burnt in explosion at flat in Narayanganj
Six members of a family, including two kids, were burnt within an explosion in their flat in Narayanganj town early today.
There was an abrupt explosion around 12:30am in the flat about the sixth flooring of a six-storey building in Kashem Nagar of Masdai area, said Abdullah Arefin, deputy assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense.
"Six members of the family have already been burnt," he told our Narayanganj correspondent.
The injured are Mishal (26), his wife Mita Begum (23), their one and a half year older son Minhaj, child Afsana (5), and relatives Mahfuz (13) and Sabbir (15).
The injured were taken up to Narayangaj General Medical center first. Later, they were shifted to the burn up device of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical circumstances, Abdullah Arefin said.
"Pillows, mattresses and garments were burnt found in the fire. The flat's windows and doors had been shattered in the blast. We found a cylinder of gas intact," he said.
Details will come to be revealed after investigation, he added.
Asaduzzaman, resident medical officer (RMO) of Narayanganj General Hospital, said a lot more than 50 percent of their bodies have already been burnt. They have already been sent to the burn product of Dhaka Medical University Hospital in critical conditions, he added.
