Eviction drive launched to vacate govt land occupied by Haji Salim
The Sonargaon Upazila administration launched an eviction drive to recuperate 14 bighas of government land occupied by Madina Band of Haji Selim at Sonargaon in Narayanganj.
Sonargaon Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Al Mamun conducted the eviction drive at Meghnaghat on Sunday afternoon. Ataur Rahman, Deputy Assistant Land Officer, and police were present in those days.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Al Mamun said they determined illegitimate establishments of Madina Group. There are 2.11 acres using one side of the cement factory, 1.8 acres on the other hand, 1.20 acres on the proper side of the toll plaza and a total of 4.39 acres of land have already been illegally occupied. The occupied land is the same as about 14 bighas.
"We have identified the whole government land occupied by Haji Selim. Of these, we've evicted three establishments at two places covering 2.11 acres. All of those other establishments is quite strong and we faced difficulties to demolish those. So, we have suspended the eviction drive for the rime being," he said.
The AC (Land) said, "We have put red flags in the places which we have vacated. However, they have already been given three days' ultimatum to eliminate the remaining illegal establishments occupying the land. If the establishments aren't vacated independently, the eviction drive will be launched again."
In this regard, Narayanganj DC Md. Jasim Uddin said an eviction drive has been launched to recuperate the land occupied by Haji Selim. They have already been given time. Legal action will be taken if they usually do not vacate the land removing the illegal structures within the time.
