45,000 affected by fire at Cox's Bazar Rohingya camps
The death toll in a devastating fire at Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhia of Cox's Bazar has increased to 11, as the number of injured folks has already reached at 155.

Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Mohammad Mohsin mentioned it at a press briefing held at the Refugee Alleviation and Repatriation Commission office in Cox's Bazar on Tuesday night time.

He said some 45,000 people belonging to 9,300 families at Balukhali Rohingya Camp were damaged by the inferno.

Besides, over 200 residences of local people have already been badly damaged by the fire.

The fire had comes from Balukhali No. 8W Rohingya Camp in Ukhiya at about 4:00pm on Mon. The fire in the future had distributed to the nearby Amounts 9, 10, and 11 camps, said Shams-ud-Doza Nayan, Additional Alleviation and Rehabilitation Commissioner.

He said the fire had pass on quickly due to the wind was blowing at a very high speed in those days, and houses in the camps were very closed to each other. Locals and volunteers produced great work to douse the fire. Later, Fire Provider and Civil Defence workers joined the work to douse the fire.

Mohammad Abdullah, deputy director of the Cox's Bazar Zone of Fire Assistance and Civil Defence, stated the fire was brought in order at 9:00am on Tuesday after very long 18 hours of efforts of Fire Service personnel, Army, Police APBN and localized volunteers.

Meanwhile, officials said the Relief and Repatriation Commission business office has been attempting to provide meals and shelters to those ill fated Rohingyas who had lost all their belongings found in the fire.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has formed a seven-member inquiry committee to probe the causes of fire in Balukhali Camp.

A good makeshift treatment centre has been opened up at Balukhali Abul Kashem SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL in Palongkhali union by unique NGOs to supply medical treatment to those that were burnt by the fire.
