2.5km Padma Bridge visible as 17th span installed
The 17th span of the 6.15-kilometre long Padma Bridge has been installed on the 22nd and the 23rd pillars at Mawa point in the district on Tuesday (Nov 26).
According to concerned officials, the installation of the span 4-D between the 22nd and the 23rd pillars at the Mawa point has made visible 2,550 metres of the main structure of this mega bridge.
Besides, the 18th span is supposed to be installed on the 17th and 18th pillars on December 4 or 5 while there is a plan to install another span on the 21st and 22nd pillars by December.
A total of 41 spans (superstructure) will be installed on the 42 pillars to construct the 6.15-km-long two-storied Padma Bridge.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on October 17 said the construction work on the Padma Bridge will be completed by June of 2021.
The construction work of the long-cherished Padma Bridge started in December, 2015 and the first span (superstructure) among the 41 was installed on September 30, 2017.
