16th span of Padma Bridge installed
The 16th span of the much awaited Padma Bridge was installed at Mawa point on Tuesday noon.
With the installation of 16th span on the 16th and 17th pillar, a total of 2,400 meters of the bridge is now visible, said assistant engineer of Padma Bridge Humayun Kabir.
Earlier in the morning, the 150-meter long '3-D' span was taken near the pillars by a floating yard 'Tian-E' from Mawa Kumarbhog Construction Yard.
The 15th span of the bridge was installed on October 22.
The construction work of the long-cherished Padma Bridge started in December, 2015 and the first span (superstructure) out of 41 was installed on September 30, 2017.
The length of the steel structure double-deck Padma Bridge is 6.15 km. The trains will run through the lower deck while the road will be on the upper level of the bridge.
