2021 essential for Bangladesh as global innovator on weather action: Bozkir
Appreciating Bangladesh’s leadership upon climate front, President of the 75th program of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Volkan Bozkir has explained 2021 amid COP26 presents another important season for Bangladesh because a worldwide leader on climate action.
"Covid-19 may be the story of 2020 and 2021, however the existential risk of climate switch remains. You happen to be on the front series," he said while providing his keynote speech at the Foreign Provider Academy, reports UNB.

He said a rise in global warming of only 1°C globally risks flooding that could displace 40 million Bangladeshis by the end of the century.

He was delivering the Sixth Lecture of the Bangabandhu Lecture Series at the Foreign Services Academy on Tuesday.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen also spoke at the programme titled "Bangabandhu, Bangladesh and the United Nations."
Express Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, were, among others, present.
Bozkir said Bangladesh can be an dynamic and influential Member Point out in the UN, and he is delighted to visit Dhaka, on only his second overseas trip since assuming the Presidency in September last.

He said Bangladesh has promoted solidarity through the entire Covid-19 response, engaging actively in multilateral initiatives and helping its neighbors aswell.

Peacekeeping

Of the 175,000 personnel deployed to 54 peacekeeping missions across five continents since 1988, currently 6,608 Bangladeshis are serving in nine missions all over the world, including, Central African Republic, Mali, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lebanon, Yemen, and South Sudan.
"These brave individuals leave their own families behind in order to protect communities found in need. I give particular tributes today to those peacekeepers who paid out the ultimate sacrifice while serving beneath the blue flag of the United Nations," Bozkir said.
