Sylhet city mayor receives death threat
The Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haq Chowdhury received death threat over phone. Therefore, he filed a general diary (GD) with Kotwali Police Station.
The mayor received at least 20 phone calls from two unknown mobile phone numbers on Saturday morning (September 28) threatening to kill him.
Shahabuddin Shihab, public relations officer (PRO) of the mayor office, said an application was sent to Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner seeking security for the mayor.
Ariful Haq Chowdhury, in this regard, told Banglanews: “I was returning from Sylhet stadium area around 10 am where I inspected a land for a school. Divisional sports association gave this piece of land at foreign minister’s recommendation. Miscreants phoned calling me names while returning from there.”
“They threatened to kill me. I, too, said, come in front of me if want to kill me. It didn’t just end there. I received a few other calls. That is why I was compelled to file a GD,” he also said.
