'Strong political will imperative to be sure rights, the dignity of migrants'

Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the US Ambassador Rabab Fatima reported this on Tuesday while emphasizing strong political will to guarantee the rights, well-being, and dignity of migrants, reports UNB.
Ambassador Fatima built the remarks during the high-level function where UN Secretary-Basic Antonio Guterres's biennial article "From Promise to Actions: Global Compact for Safe and sound, Orderly and Standard Migration'' was launched.
Highlighting Bangladesh's close association with the adoption of the Global Compact to get Migration, the lady reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to its implementation.
Discussing the daunting issues faced simply by the migrants amid the pandemic - due to job losses, wage cuts, and lack of access to social secureness - she lauded the secretary-general's report for rendering practical policy suggestions to tackle the ongoing crisis.
Ambassador Fatima also thanked the secretary-general for recognizing the joint assertion on the "Influence of Covid-19 on Migrants," which was co-led by Bangladesh following virus outbreak.
The statement was eventually endorsed by 103 member states.
Also, Ambassador Fatima needed harnessing the development potentials of migration and urged the UN and other international bodies to aid the national governments in their effort to align the migration-related activities with the 2030 Agenda.
Also, she called for an improved global partnership for the skilling, re-skilling, and up-skilling of migrant workers.
Ambassador Fatima stressed the value of providing them with sufficient funds for coping up with the "new usual" of the post-pandemic work market.
