Top US legal professional refutes Trump election fraud claims
US Attorney Basic William Barr says his justice department has found no proof to again President Donald Trump's claims of fraud found in the 2020 election.
"To date, we've not seen fraud in a scale that could include affected a numerous outcome in the election," he said.
His comments are seen as a major blow to Mr Trump, who hasn't accepted defeat.
He and his campaign have filed lawsuits found in claims that he lost, because they start certifying Joe Biden due to the winner.
President-elect Biden defeated the incumbent Mr Trump by a margin of 306 to 232 votes in America electoral college, which chooses the US president. And in the favorite vote, Mr Biden won at least 6.2 million more votes than Mr Trump.
Since 3 November's election, Mr Trump has repeatedly made unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud, and people of his legal defence team have spoken of an alleged international plot to hand Mr Biden the win. On Tuesday, after Mr Barr's statements were unveiled, the president tweeted many times alluding to voter fraud, again without proof.
"There has been one assertion that might be systemic fraud and that might be the claim that equipment had been programmed essentially to skew the election effects," Mr Barr, who's seen as a top Trump ally, told AP News on Tuesday, referring to the assertion that ballot machines were hacked to provide more votes to Mr Biden.
Mr Barr said that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Homeland Security have investigated that say, "and so far, we haven't seen anything to substantiate that".
A DOJ spokesperson soon after stressed the department hadn't concluded its investigation and would continue steadily to "receive and vigorously pursue all particular and credible allegations of fraud as expeditiously as possible".
Previous month, Mr Barr issued an order to All of us attorneys, permitting them to pursue any kind of "significant allegations" of voting irregularities, prior to the 2020 presidential election was certified.
"There's an evergrowing tendency to utilize the criminal justice program as type of a default fix-all, and persons don't like something they need the Department of Justice to come in and 'investigate,'" he added. He likewise informed the AP that he previously appointed a veteran prosecutor to continue investigating the origins of special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into alleged election meddling.
Reacting to his remarks, Trump campaign attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis said in a joint affirmation: "With the best respect to the Attorney General, his thoughts and opinions appears to be without the knowledge or perhaps investigation of the substantial irregularities and evidence of systemic fraud."
Meanwhile, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said of Mr Barr's statement: "I assume he's the next someone to be fired."
