Shabnam to be honored  with 'Alokito Nari Award'
On the occasion of International Women's Day 2019, veteran film actress Shabnam is going to be honored with the prestigious 'Alokito Nari Award 2019' for her outstanding contribution to the cultural arena of Bangladesh. 

Organized by popular TV channel RTV, the award ceremony styled 'Alokito Nari 2019' will be held at a five-star hotel in the capital on March 8. Shabnam informed that the organizers, on behalf of RTV, will hand over the award to her at the event.

Talking about the initiative, the actress thanked and expressed her gratitude to the RTV authorities for the honoring her and regarded the award as an inspiration for her. "I am proud of the fact that our Prime Minister is a woman. Her contribution to the country's development is immense and I am thankful to her for this. I am grateful to RTV family for giving me 'Alokito Nari Award' on the eve of International Women's Day," said the actress. 

"This award will inspire me to move forward in the future. If my husband Robin Ghosh was alive today, he would have been very happy. My son Rony, too, is happy on hearing the news. I am grateful to all associated with this award," she added.       

Making a strong space for herself in both Lollywood and Dhallywood, the actress permanently returned to Bangladesh 20 years back. Although her contribution at the beginning of Bangla cinema was notable, the actress has not received any prominent award from the country till now. 

Jharna Basak, known by the stage name Shabnam, is a Bangladeshi and former Pakistani stage and film actress. She was born on August 17, 1942. Actor Waheed Murad introduced her to the Pakistani film industry by offering her a lead role in his film 'Samundar' in 1968.

Shabnam worked in total 170 films. She played the role of a mother in Manna starrer film 'Ammajan', which got huge response from the audience.
