SC upholds order on Shahidul’s division in jail
The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a High Court order on providing first-class division to noted photographer Shahidul Alam in jail.

The SC also dismissed the leave to appeal petition filed by the government challenging the HC order. 

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, cme up with the order following a hearing on the petition.

Advocate Sarah Hossain stood for Shahidul in the court while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state.

On September 17, a chamber judge upheld the High Court order to provide Shahidul the privilage.

Earlier on September 5, the HC directed the authorities concerned to provide first division to the founder of the Drik Gakkery and the Pathshala South Asian Media Institute.

Shahidul Alam was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence on August 5 and a case was filed against him with Ramna Police Station the following day for spreading propaganda through his Facebook account during the student movement demanding for safe roads.
