Samrat placed on 10-day remand
A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed expelled Jubo League's Dhaka South Unit president Ismail Hossain Samrat on a 10-day remand in two cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzel Hossain granted five days' remand in arms case and another five days' in drug case.
The same court also placed Samrat's close aide Enamul Haque Arman, also an expelled Jubo League leader, on a five-day remand in drug case.
Arman was shown arrested in the case on October 9.
Earlier this morning, police produced Samrat and Arman before the court seeking 20 days' to take them in custody for interrogation.
On the other hand, Samrat's lawyer filed a petition to reject the remand plea.
Meanwhile, Samrat's followers took position outside the court in the morning and staged demonstration there demanding his release.
The influential Jubo League leader came under the spotlight after the Rapid Action Battalion unearthed illegal casino hubs in sporting clubs in Dhaka on September 18.
The elite force members arrested Samrat and Arman from Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla early morning on October 6.
Later, they raided Samrat's office in Bhuiyan Trade Centre at Kakrail and recovered a loaded pistol, 1,160 Yaba pills, 19 bottles of foreign liquor and two Kangaroo skins.
He was, later, sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for possessing animal hide.
On October 8, Samrat was admitted to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) following a chest pain. And he was discharged from the hospital on October 12.
