'Purnograsher Kaal' premiered
'Purnograsher Kaal', depicting attack on a writer by extremists was premiered on Saturday at National Art Gallery auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The short film, which features Jayanta Chattopadhyay in lead role, revolves around a writer, who is attacked in his home by two youths. Besides portraying attacks on free thinkers and rise of extremism in society, the 31-minute short film highlights the importance of raising awareness against extremism among youths.
The short film revolves around a writer named Bhashwar Chowdhury, played by Jayanta Chattopadhyay, who hopes to raise awareness against extremism among youths through his writing. He becomes target for extremists for his stance over extremism. One day two youths attack him in his house. However, he survives the attack. Police arrests the youths and questions them about the motive behind the attack.
The youths say that they attacked Bhashwar because they wanted to steal the manuscript of his latest work, titled 'Purnograsher Kaal'. When Bhashwar becomes aware of this he gives the manuscript to the youths and asks them to read it. He hopes that his work will enlighten the country's youths and prevent them from joining extremist groups.
'We want to portray how rise of extremism in society threatens to silence voices of free thinkers', Zayed Siddiki, director of the film,said. The short film, written by Helal Mohiuddin, has been produced by Cine Motion.
